From Field to Canvas

For my next landscape collection, I am taking the studio out into the field.

Observing nature, taking note of the way the land feels and then translating that onto the canvas so that when you are standing with the painting, you feel as if you are standing in the landscape itself.

Being from Kentucky, I am lucky enough to always be surounded by these beautiful hills and trees.

Oftentimes a simple car ride to the grocery store sparks my inspiration. But this time, I’m stepping foot into the open field because I need to be as close to the inspiration as possible.

To feel it, to listen to it, and to notice every small detail that a car ride does not see.

By doing this, I know that the paintings from this collection will become some of my greatest work.

When I paint a landscape, the goal is not to paint the direct scene in front of me, but to instead capture the essence of the land and the calmness that it brings.

When I take these trips I like to pack my notebook and my camera so that I can capture not just the details, but the emotions that the land brings.

Being in nature is one of the greatest forms of therapy. It calms your mind, puts you at ease, there’s fresh air to breathe, open spaces to move in freely. Its a place you want to linger in, a place that brings you comfort and hope.

These are the kinds of emotions I want to convey in my artwork, so if you can’t make it to the field, you can still experience the calmness of the land from the comfort of your home.

Most of the paintings from this collection are created on large to medium sized canvases. I chose these sizes, especially the larger ones, because I want them to make an impact inside the home. I imagine them being beautifully displayed in an entryway, on a wall inside a living room, hanging above your dining table, bringing a calm and organic feel to the space.

The Linger Here Collection will release in September 2023.
