Studio// From burnout to a soul nourishing collection.
“ It doesn’t have to be good. It just has to be what my soul needs.”
and from there a collection was slowly born…
There was a moment back in December where I struggled to create work that inspired me. I was putting so much pressure on my self and it lead to a little bit of burn out and a lot of tears. But I had to fight this, I needed to paint. So I grabbed a canvas from my closet, took a deep breathe, and said to my self. This doesn't have to be perfect, this just has to be what my soul needs.
In that moment all my soul needed was to move paint around on canvas. I wiped the paint away multiple times. Finally, I settled on a landscape and could slowly start to feel the inspiration finding its way back. I worked on the painting for a few days. I never actually finished it. But it brought me back to where I needed to be and from there a new collection slowly began to take place..
In the quite of the night, with a cup of coffee, some charcoal pencils, and a sketchbook, I began to let my mind roam.
Slowly gliding my pencil across the paper. Using my hand as a blending tool. Wondering why it has taken me so long to get back to simply sketching.
It was like finding a moment of calm in the midst of chaos. It was refreshing, soul nourishing, an of course left my artist heart craving for more.
I was ready to paint. no. I NEEDED to paint.
I could already imagine it. .
Loose, soft brushstrokes.
Deep, warm greens, burnt sienna, some yellow ocher balanced perfectly with a cool ice blue and a touch of burnt umber.
I wanted the paintings to feel inviting and gentle. Bringing warmth, comfort, and ease to who ever accompanies it.
From there, I lit a candle, letting the smell of hazelnut fill the studio.
Took deep a breathe..
Slowly, sipped my coffee. Being reminded of that same warmth and comfort I wish to bring these new paintings..
Repeated once more, this doesn’t have to be perfect. It just needs to be what my soul needs.
and the collection began.
